Troubleshooting: File Reading Error (3)

Symptoms

The backup fails with “File Reading Error (3)” or “The system cannot find the path specified.”

Cause

Error 3 typically indicates a Path Not Found issue. This happens if a file was moved, renamed, or deleted between the time the backup engine scanned the drive and the time it attempted to upload the file. It can also indicate a broken symbolic link or a disconnected network drive.

Resolution

  1. Verify Path: Manually navigate to the path mentioned in the log to ensure the file still exists.
  2. Refresh Backup Set: If the files were moved, update your backup selection in the client interface.
  3. Network Stability: If backing up from a NAS or mapped drive, ensure the connection is stable and the drive hasn’t “gone to sleep.”
